Gungahlin Regional Community Service has a Community Development Officer available during the week to discuss community projects.
Currently community development facilitates: Coffee Break A women's discussion, craft and coffee group. The group meets on Thursday's 10am - midday. The cost is $3 per session. Childcare is available at $3 per session for 1 child; $4 per session for 2 or more children. Bookings essential. Gentle Exercises Program The gentle exercises program aims to improve general health and well being in people over 55. People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to participate. Bookings essential. 10 Sessions for $50. Monday 11.00am - 12pm and Thursday 1.00 - 2.00pm. Gungahlin Community Network The group meets weekly to undertake craft and art activities, chat and have coffee. It also offers social support and friendship. The Network welcomes new residents. Wednesdays 10:00am to 12:00pm Held at Gungahlin Community Resource Centre.
New Horizons (next course starts 21 October)
Is a career skills program which assists women to re-enter the workforce, commence studies or become a volunteer. The program includes personalized guidance, group instructional sessions, workshops and ongoing support.The program begins with an individual session where career goals and participant strengths and weaknesses are discussed. Participants will then take part in a short course called Changes in Direction. This course is held once a week for approximately 5 weeks between 9.30am and 2.30pm. The course will assist women to build their self-esteem, set goals and compile a resume. Following the course a series of workshops will be conducted on a range of topics including basic computing, addressing selection criteria and interview techniques. If required the participants will then be gien further assistance to apply for jobs, commence studies or obtain a volunteer position. Childcare: will be provided to participants who have children under the age of 6 years on site free of charge. Venue: all the courses and workshops will be held at the Gungahlin Community Resource Centre, Ernest Cavanagh St, Gungahlin. Walk and Talk A walking group for everyone. All ages and capabilities welcome. Thursday mornings 9.30am - 10.30am at Ngunnawal Neighbourhood Centre, Yarrawonga Street. Get fit and make new friends. New Acrylic Art Courses (next course starts 16 October) Tuesdays (Beginner) Ngunnawal Neighbourhood Centre 1-4pm Thursdays (Advanced) Ngunnawal Neighbourhood Centre 1-4pm Thursdays (Beginner & Intermediate) Palmerston Community Centre 12.30-2.30pm STARTS 23 Oct. The course will cost $60 or $50 for concession card holders.

Basic Computer Course Would you like to learn how to use the internet and be introduced to Microsoft Word. Classes commence in late October. They will be held over 4 weeks on Monday evenings 6pm - 8pm at the Gungahlin Community Resource Centre. Classes will be small (max 8) and the atmosphere friendly. The cost is $50 or $40 for concession card holders. English Conversation Classes Are conducted for residents from non-English speaking backgrounds every Friday from 1:00pm to 2:30pm at Gungahlin Resource Centre. These classes are free of charge.Gungahlin Community Markets Every 4th Saturday of the month 10am to 2pm. October 25; November 22.
